Country living

I am just home from a visit to my friend's parents place.  They live at Old Hall, a community (a sort-of hippie commune, only, to our surprise, not so hippie!) http://oldhall.org.uk/ out in the beautiful countryside of Sufolk.  I brought my camera along, and, lucked out with two beautiful sunny days.  Here are a few shots from the Old Hall farm, and the picturesque surroundings.

The community runs a farm on their 70 acres of land- most of the food they eat is produced on the farm, everything from beans (drying below) to homemade cheese.

Everyone lives in a beautiful building with a long history-- as a manor, a convent, and a friary.  Every family has their own private living space, but, come together for meals and other social activities.  Lunch and dinner are served collectively everyday, with rotating cooks responsible for the meals.  It made me miss my Oberlin co-op days. We feasted on delicious food all weekend, and, like good country dwellers, drank lots and lots of tea.

We went for a walk through the country side, in very close proximity to sheep, cows, and other creatures.  It was like an English safari.

It was such a clear day that our reflections were (almost) like a photograph in the river.

Does the picture below look familiar?

We went out on a misty morning to feed the calves.

All and all, a wonderful weekend away in the beautiful and quaint countryside.

Tourist for a day

I took the day off work to be a London tourist. . .

(You can't be a tourist without a Big Ben photo...)
